Pop up series! Reclaiming Aliveness: Embodying The Work that Reconnects
This world needs our aliveness —an invitation to reconnect with our vitality in overwhelming times.
Through Joanna Macy’s The Work That Reconnects and embodied practice, in these workshops we make space for sorrow, sound, movement, and imagination as pathways back to aliveness. Offered online and in person, these workshops are designed to support presence, connection, and a deeper capacity to stay in relationship with life.
The Spiral and the Song: Exploring Voice, Sound, and The Work That Reconnects
Friday, May 22 | 6:30–9:00 PM | Florence, MA
$25 donation suggested
Co-facilitated with singer Kelly Vogel, this gathering weaves together song, humming, toning, gentle vocal exploration, with Joanna Macy’s The Work That Reconnects. The voice can help soften numbness, release frozen energy, and reconnect us with breath, feeling, and life force. We will move through the spiral of The Work That Reconnects: grounding in gratitude, making space for our heartache for the world, opening to new ways of seeing, and listening for what is ours to do. Through accessible, beginner-friendly vocal practices, we will explore how sound can help us stay present to sorrow without shutting down, and remember that grief and aliveness can live side by side. This is not about performing. It is about returning to the wisdom of the body, the power of collective voice, and the possibility that what aches in us can also become a doorway back to connection.
Kelly Vogel is a longtime educator and singer, and a doctoral student in Education with a focus on embodiment. Her research focuses on exploring embodiment through collaborative, arts-based practices. She believes that when we become more embodied we reclaim our power and take a stand (pun intended!) for who we are – and what we want to see – in the world.
All voices are welcome. No singing experience is needed.

Dancing the Great Turning: Reclaiming aliveness through 5Rhythms® & The Work That Reconnects
Thursday, June 11 | 12:30–3:00 PM | Online
$35/$25/$15
Rooted in Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects and the moving meditation practice of 5Rhythms®, this gathering creates space to turn toward what is true, not alone, but together. Through dance, reflection, and shared practice, we will make space for sorrow as part of love for the world—and open pathways for vitality to return. Co-facilitated with Jenny Fahy, we bring together the 5Rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness and the spiral of the Work That Reconnects: grounding in gratitude, honoring our heartache for the world, opening to new ways of seeing, and listening for what is ours to do. Through movement, embodied listening, and collective inquiry, we’ll explore the body as a pathway back—a way to soften numbness, release frozen energy, and reconnect with life force. Together, we’ll practice moving from disconnection toward belonging, from overwhelm toward presence, and from exhaustion toward the deeper pulse of aliveness that helps us stay in relationship with the world.
These workshops are part of a larger body of work devoted to helping us return to what is most alive, most true, and most deeply ours.
